Booking a Child Seat: What We Need to Know, and When

Child seats are added in step two of the booking, up to four of them, at €5 a seat. The detail that actually matters is not the number though — it is the age of each child, because that determines which seat is fitted, and a seat for a toddler is not the same thing as a booster.

How to add a seat

In step two of the booking form, alongside the other extras, you choose the number of child seats. Directly below it is the notes field — that is where the age of each child belongs. Two numbers will do: "3 and 7" tells us everything we need.

Why the age is the detail that matters

An eighteen-month-old and a five-year-old need different restraint systems. Without an age we would be guessing, and a guessed seat is the wrong seat as often as not — which is hard to correct in the arrivals hall, because the right one is then not in the vehicle.

For infants, please say so explicitly. An infant carrier is not a small child seat but a separate item, and it has to be fitted before the journey. What else helps is in travelling with a baby: an airport transfer checklist.

How many seats are possible

Up to four per booking. If you need more, write to us — for larger groups it becomes a question of the vehicle and gets discussed individually anyway. Remember that each child also counts as a person: a VIP van holds six people, three of whom may be children, but six is still six.

Seats and luggage space

A child seat occupies a seat, not a luggage slot — it makes no difference to the available boot space. What genuinely tightens things up is what travels alongside children: the pushchair, the travel cot, the buggy. Those need declaring, because they influence which vehicle is sent; the rules are in how much luggage is included in a private transfer.

If you bring your own seat

This is common and entirely fine — plenty of families fly with the familiar seat because the child sleeps in it. Tell us in the notes field anyway: then we do not book a second seat, and the driver knows to help fit it and to load one more item. A seat you bring counts as a piece of luggage, not as an extra.

Adding one after booking

A child seat can be added after the fact; a short message with your name, travel date and the child's age is enough. The earlier the better — on the day of travel itself we cannot reliably promise a seat, because it has to be physically in a vehicle that is already on its way.

Common questions

What does a child seat cost?

€5 per seat, up to four seats per booking. It is paid to the driver on the day, like the fare itself.

What do you need from me for a child seat?

The age of each child, in the notes field of the booking. That determines which restraint is fitted — for infants, please say explicitly that an infant carrier is needed.

Can I bring my own child seat?

Yes. Note it in the notes field so we do not bring a second one. Your own seat counts as a piece of luggage, and the driver will help fit it.

Can I add a child seat after booking?

Yes, with a short message. On the day of travel it becomes difficult, because the seat has to be in a vehicle that is already en route.
