Golf Bags, Pushchairs and Wheelchairs: Declaring Oversized Luggage

Extra luggage is €10 an item, up to five items, added in step two of the booking. A wheelchair works differently: €15 once per booking, not per chair. The amount is not really the point though — the point is that a vehicle arrives with room for the thing.

What counts as oversized

Anything not shaped like a suitcase, and anything beyond one case per person. The basic rule and the capacity limits are in how much luggage is included in a private transfer; this article is about the items that do not fit inside it.

Item by item

Golf bags

The commonest oversize item on the route to Belek. A bag is long and rigid, and four bags plus four cases makes eight items — two too many for a VIP van with six luggage places. Declare the number of bags and a suitable vehicle gets planned.

Pushchairs and buggies

Loaded folded. For larger models that do not fold flat, put a short note in the notes field — the difference in the boot is substantial. For collection at the airport and the wider routine with small children, see travelling with a baby.

Wheelchairs

A wheelchair carries a flat €15, once per booking rather than per chair. That is deliberate: what it pays for is a vehicle that can take it plus help loading at both ends, and that does not scale with the number of chairs the way a child seat scales with the number of children. Say whether it is a folding chair or a powered model; with the second, weight is the deciding factor.

Sports equipment

Surfboards, diving kit, bicycles, ski equipment in winter. All are workable, all need notice, and with a bicycle the question is whether it travels dismantled or boxed — say which.

Instruments and similar

Anything fragile that should not travel lying down belongs in the notes field. We then plan for it to ride upright rather than under three suitcases.

What to put in the notes field

Two details per item will do: what it is and how many. "2 golf bags" or "1 folding wheelchair, 1 pushchair" is a complete declaration. If an item is unusually large or heavy, add that — better one word too many than one vehicle too small.

When it only appears mid-trip

It happens, particularly on the return leg. A short message is enough, even on the day of travel — the earlier it comes, the more certainly the vehicle can be adjusted. What happens when more luggage turns up than was declared is in when luggage decides your vehicle.

Common questions

What does an extra item of luggage cost?

€10 an item, up to five per booking, added in step two. It is paid on the day like the fare itself.

How do I declare a golf bag?

As extra luggage in the right quantity, plus a short note in the notes field. Four bags and four cases is eight items — that is what decides the vehicle class.

What does taking a wheelchair cost?

A flat €15 per booking, not per chair. It covers a vehicle that can take it plus help loading at both ends.

Do I really have to declare oversized items in advance?

Yes. The vehicle is dispatched against what the booking says. Undeclared oversize luggage can usually be resolved on the spot, but it costs time and possibly a second vehicle.
