A Shop Stop Before the Hotel

A short stop at a supermarket on the way from the airport costs €15 and is added in step two of the booking. It exists for the situation that comes up more on the Turkish coast than most places: you land in the middle of the night, and nothing at your destination is open.

When it earns its place

  • After a night landing. A large share of charter flights arrive between 11pm and 5am, and at that hour you will rarely find anything open at your destination. See landing between 11pm and 5am.
  • In a self-catering apartment. With no hotel breakfast, the first morning is otherwise a problem you could have solved the night before.
  • With small children. Water, milk, nappies — things you do not pack and still need on arrival evening. See travelling with a baby.
  • Arriving late at a weekend, when the following day may not help either.

How it works

The driver stops at a shop on the route — not a detour, one that is on the way anyway. You shop, he waits with the luggage in the vehicle, and then you carry on to the hotel. For the journey time that usually means twenty to thirty minutes more, depending on how quick you are and what is open at that hour.

What it is not

It is not a stop at any address of your choosing: that is an extra stop, also €15, of which up to three are possible per journey. The shop stop is bookable once per booking and means exactly that — one halt to shop on the way.

And it is not the driver running an errand. He stops and waits; the shopping is yours to do.

Booking it, and adding it later

Tick it in step two of the booking form, alongside the other extras. The €15 appears on your confirmation and is paid on the day together with the fare, like everything else — see how and when you pay.

Adding it afterwards takes a short message. On the day of travel it is usually still possible, because nothing needs preparing except the journey time — unlike a child seat, which has to be physically in the vehicle.

On the return leg

It rarely makes sense there: on the way to the airport every minute counts against the departure time, and the pickup is calculated with a buffer, not with shopping time in it. If you do want to pick something up on the way, say so in advance so the pickup is set earlier — the calculation is in when should you leave your hotel for the airport.

Common questions

What does a shop stop cost?

€15, once per booking. It appears on your confirmation and is paid on the day together with the fare.

How much time does it add?

Usually twenty to thirty minutes, depending on what is open at your arrival time.

Does it work in the middle of the night?

Usually, but not everywhere — which shop is open depends on the route and the hour. The driver knows the options on his route.

Can I stop at a specific address instead?

For that you book an extra stop, also €15, up to three per journey. The shop stop means a halt to shop along the route.
